Perhaps a question too complex to answer, but worth seeing what others think on it - what makes INTL unique and what is INTL's identity? What binds the members not only to keep coming here and to keep posting here (other than addiction, per se), but to have stayed here, continued relationships on other mediums (offline, AIM, ICQ), and to have done so for upwards of 6 or more years? What are our collective mannerisms, ideas, intentions?
It's something which I ponder, since INTL doesn't have much of a purpose. It's not a gaming forum for one specific game. It's not a fandom. We don't seek a meme such as - say - furries or trekkies. We certainly don't have the additional elements which have produced the 'goons' and the 'farkers', or the founding purpose of philosophy or history to drive us.
And so I'm left thinking, do we share any common characteristics? Even with our differences, is there a common culture to this forum? It's hard not to see that INTL has a community to it. That the people haven't changed all that much, is the longest lasting aspect of this site.
I may be grasping at straws, but if there is a clear defined identity - for certainly there's an identity - it's possible it could be marketed to gain greater activity, it could explain how people have changed as a result of INTL, and why others have migrated into INTL, and how INTL has accepted them.
