I'm loving what's come out thus far in 2007:

The Shins - Wincing The Night Away
Ghost - In Stormy Nights
!!! - Myth Takes
RJD2 - The Third Hand
Marissa Nadler - Songs III - Bird On The Water
Menomena - Friend And Foe

are all superlative albums. The new Arcade Fire wasnt as bad as some reviews portrayed but it certainly wasnt anything brilliant. I know Of Montreal have a new release that i've yet to listen to and there's a new Amon Tobin i'll be reaching for tomorrow - what are the other stuff has impressed you greatly in 2007, or do you share my own admiration for the albums mentioned thus far?

Mary Weiss, the former lead for the Shangri-Las just put out a new album with the Reigning Sound doing the music for it. The songs are pretty good, from what I've heard so far.

I thought the new Shins album was pretty disappointing and by far their weakest work to date. So far my favorites have been:
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna You Are the Destroyer
The Bird and the Bee - s/t
Cocorosie - The Adventures Of Ghosthorse & Stillborn
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Living with the Living
The One AM Radio - The Too Will Pass
For now we see through a glass, darkly, but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

The new Victory at Sea isint as perfect as Memories Fade but it's aiiiight. 6/10

I quite like Patrick Wolf but I find his compositions get a little predictable.....i'd give the new album a 7/10.

The new Cocorosie is a lot warmer and poppier than their previous eclectic outings...Bjork if she was a character from Carnivale perhaps. 7/10....Joanna Newsome's Ys will still be what I turn to when I need to feed my brain with crazy beautiful girl folk (10/10).

Impatiently queued for Laura Veirs.

Looking forward to:
Cocktail Minxxx - Revolting Cocks
The Last Sucker - Ministry LAST ALBUM OH GOD
Year Zero - NIN
Fallout - Front Line Assembley (I think this is a remix but its will still be good)
New stuff from Diamanda Galás
Shine - Joni Mitchell
Just heard Patti Smith has a new one coming too.

Haven't bought much this year, Skinny Puppy's Mythmaker was one of the few new ones. Its not bad.

I heard there was a Pigface reissue coming too, and a new Marilyn Manson but I'd only be buying out of completism there, I've grown to hate everything he's done since Antichrist Superstar.

Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer
The Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Ted Leo - Living With The Living
Menomena - Friend and Foe
The Apples in Stereo - New Magnetic Wonder
Wilco - Sky Blue Sky (omg not out until may lawl)
Voxtrot - s/t

From this thread, I checked out Cocorosie and it reminds me way too much of Joanna Newsom, which is nice, but kinda just distracted me.

I'll check out more of the other stuff suggested later on, but I'm really liking the stuff that has come out this year so far.

Radiohead - Maybe this year? It's going to be amazing, shut up they'll never lose their touch.
Modest Mouse; We Were Dead... - I got this downloaded a while ago, but I haven't had a chance to listen yet. From what I've heard, it's more of the same in a good way. It might be disappointing, but I have faith.
Smog; Woke on a Whaleheart - Comes in April, I'm very excited. Unrelatedly, Bill Callahan is dating Joanna Newsom, who writes very pretty music but has a voice that is damn near unlistenable to me.

I meant to get on board with the Arcade Fire's first album, but I never got quite interested enough. I need to check out the Cocorosie, and Wilco, maybe, although aside from Yankee Hotel Foxtrot their body of work is pretty boring to me. I feel kind of out of the loop with all this stuff right now, I need to start paying attention.

...no, seriously.

heads up guys....new cornelius called sensuous...currently receiving but come on, if you loved Point you'll need to hear this. got a 9/10 in a lot of places.

Tazzo that Myth Takes album is fucking excellent...Bend Over Beethoven track is so very fucking funky. Suprised me that i'd like that genre of music so much...I really do love a taut electronic album...Four Tet and Ulver are the ways I usually delve. This is far more dancefloor anthemishy...and so good. I invariably get up and dance around the house. No clubs here except what we use on the heads of baby lambs.

Amy Winehouse - Back To Black

she's being gossiped about due to some crack user allegations and stupid pr feuds with famous hollywood brats, BUT this album is fucking amazing, this little white girl has a voice straight outa the 50's...she belongs alongside Ray Charles...but it's got saucy modern edge.
