How come there isn't one yet?

If there is, and it's rotting at the bottom of the forum page or hidden in some other forum, do delete this one and call me an idiot.

If there isn't... well, here's the whole world cheering for the Democrats. It's not that we trust them, but how could they possibly be worse than what you currently have?

I hear E-voting is screwing up already. Especially in tied states. Especially in places within those states that have democratic majorities. Afro-American democratic majorities.

Or maybe that's just the biased European media taking another hit at the slumbering giant.

Another thing: if you happen to be one of those Americans who don't vote, would you support a system wherein you can sell your vote through the internet to a foreign citizen willing to vote in your place? Because I'd buy some American votes, if the price was not too high. Imagine if that 50% of non-voting Americans sold their votes to Europeans. First socialist president of the US.

God no.

How about we Americans vote in place of your non-voters?

If that idea repulses you, well then, now you know how your idea sounds to me.

Go Jim Webb. I wasn't sure of him, but then I saw all those hot steamy passages from his novels and was convinced he was the right man for the job.

Seriously, though, Allen is a big fat macaca and deserves to lose his seat.

Current results:
Quote:
Democratic Webb
443,904 50%

Republican Allen
442,925 49%

Independent Grassroots Parker
9,738 1%

40% of precincts reporting

So 31 dems to 22 reps in the House right now. Also, will the reps lose Virginia's senate seat?

I've been reading a lot about the problems with voting machines, etc. Most of this has been from sources that lean more towards supporting the Democrats than the GOP, so I've been trying to hold off on opining much about the election until I've taken a more balanced look at it.

I'm mostly interested in the election for the voting machines (and problems with), rather than the outcome (because the Dems and GOP are similar enough that I can't see it making a real difference either way), because I'm trying to query a local newspaper to let me do a tech news column, and I think it'd be a good topic to write a sample column about.

Nope. I didn't like any of the candidates for my state for congress or for governor. Since I have no party alliegence for either democrats or republicans (infact, i'd rather see both parties crumble), and none of the independent candidates had anything good to say (nothing that I heard, anyway).

A lesser of two evils is still evil, so I don't go for the whole "lesser of two evils" approach. I stayed home. Normally i'd vote independent, or libertarian, but no one caught my attention.

OR DID I?? Voting is a private matter and I have the right to keep that info to myself.

I was walking on campus today and this kid from College Dems saw my "I've Voted" sticker. He led me to this table and they gave me free pizza, soda, and cheetos. It was awesome.

Each state votes in two senators right? Are they always from the same party or can you have one from each party in the house?

They dont have to be from the same party. In your state you can have 1 republican and 1 democratic senator. Or they could both be the same party, it doesnt matter.

Senators have 6 year terms, and each election only about 1/3 are up for reelection. And yes, a state can have senators from different parties. I'm pretty sure no state elects both their senators at once.

this is looking pretty good.

I predict the Democrats will lose in Tennessee, but win in Missouri and Montana. Virginia will go to a recount and end up Democratic.

edit: Slate's has called the Senate for the Democrats. I think that is pretty brave of them.

But last I checked, Webb was barely in the lead. The race is close enough that the absentee ballots will be counted, which should likely place Webb further in the lead... This of course will postpone the results. That hasn't stopped my roommates and I from swishing with hopeful glee.

No one but I care, but in my precinct CongrAssman Cantor (R) was re-elected, which comes as no surprise, and is a bit of a downer. Especially concerning Hanover environmental conservation.

Colbert's last five minutes of the entire thing were brilliant TV. Crazy delicious brilliant, even. Great show.

RE: The actual topic. Even if they don't win the Senate, the House is a significant upgrade for the Dems and really does prove they don't have to have an actual campaign to be remotely successful, just one of "at least we're not collectively Bush." The most positive sign, IMO, is the Dems adding a number of left-leaning referendums onto the ticket, to attract voters most likely, much like Rove used to such advantage with gay marriage in the past few elections.

Interesting night, fo' sho
