smoke weed, that is.

I smoke to the Ozric Tentacles. They are hard to describe. I also smoke to Bob Dylan and the blues and of course reggae.

How about you?

As I've said anywhere, I don't really like weed and tend to avoid it, but in the days when I did amoke, back when I was about 15 or 16, it used to be a toss up between trip hop (Massive Attack, Portishead and the like) and Kyuss-style desert rock.

One of the very few stoning sessions I can remember as being genuinely enjoyable was whilst listening to Welcome to Sky Valley (Kyuss) in a blackened room with only the blue fire from burning deoderant for light.

Pretty stupid, but a good laugh nevertheless.
Congratulations! You've just been tuned in by the Frosty Service Crew, INTL's no.1 casual firm...

I'm debating which sort of music is better to get high to: pulsating simple music, or intricate/complicated music. A combination of both is always satisfying.

at school i tended to favor lots of late beatles, dub and roots reggae, bossa nova shit, and even some minimal techno... richie hawtin is pretty nuts when you're totally wasted.

oh, and thievery corporation. i can't count how many times i've been stoned and listened to the mirror conspiracy.

Well, being that I just got my hands on over 2Gb of Grateful Dead, you can pretty much guess what I'll be listening to when I do eventually start smoking again this fall.

Jam band music is more to my liking, everything else seems way too busy to me. Occasionally I'll listen to contemporary-ish music, but I don't like having to follow lyrics all that much and would rather just have the music to flow along with the high.

Yo, you should check out some Pharaoh Sanders and Alice Coltrane. I think you would find them to your liking. Minimal lyrics, the music is very flowing and soothing and all that good stuff. Very acid influenced.

I'll look into them. I'm kinda odd on tripping music, but I'll probably manage to get into them while baked. Last time I shroomed (it's impossible to get acid here) I really got into Dream Theater again. I listened to their Octavarium album on loop for about two hours, then flipped to Scenes From A Memory (holy fucking shit that was an awesome hour or so) and then I moved on to some Astral Projection album for a bit.

I like more lyrical music while I'm tripping, and the occasional power-ballad.

ExtraKryspi, are you on SomethingAwful, by any chance?

I tend to play Daydream Nation or The Mars Volta until I'm sufficently tense and freaked out...Then I shift to Radiohead's Amnesiac, or something along those lines.

Really familiar albums are great while high. For me, that means early Weezer, or Nirvana. They sound completely new (at least for a few listens).

Dark Side of the Moon is my favorite album sometimes. I'm a little surprised that nobody smokes to Hendrix.

Dark Side, really? Naturally, I'm extremely fond of The Wall, mostly because I was introduced to it while stoned (seriously, never heard it before maybe early 2002).

As far as Hendrix, I used to listen to some of his songs while baked, but they just didn't entertain me enough for some reason. All Along The Watchtower is a must for any playlist, however.

If you can find it, The Samples are awesome whilst baked. I just got two of their albums off of a free trial from eMusic because I lost my CDs by them. Also, String Cheese Incident and Blues Traveler, but that usually goes without saying.

Also, found a band I really like right now but I can't test a good stoner reaction to it until the end of October. The band is called Sunday Afternoon. If you like folksy guitar rock type music, it might be up your alley.

Oh, I just remembered, there's something truly mesmerizing about good banjo music. Just thought I'd share.

I agree with Dark Side of the Moon. I went through a hardcore Hendrix phase back a while ago and still can't listen to his music. Fuck it, I'ma do that right now.

Yeah, definitely Dark Side. And The Wall... Ummagumma can be good too, if you're not easily scared.

I love live music when I'm high. I went to a 7 hour long concert while stoned recently and it was really good. I liked the jazz band the best.

Air is good. Other than that, it's mostly music I listen to normally- Doors, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, Sublime... (I feel like such a stereotype.)

The best atmosphere I've been in to just listen to music while high is in my room. I have a dark blue floor with glow in the dark stars, and glow in the dark stars on my ceiling. So we turn off the lights and just watch the stars. And maybe turn on a lava lamp or two.

Let us not forget Wish You Were Here, Meddle, Animals, and Atom Heart Mother. Anybody who has not listened to Wish You Were Here in the last few weeks should feel great shame at even thinking the words "Pink Floyd." There will be no penance for those people to pay; their suffering will be eternal.

uh, not Pink Floyd nor Reggae of any style, albeit there was this one reggae artist (who's name eludes me) that had a beat that worked well for being high. I do not believe hendrix can be fully appreciated until you're in a stoned state, but those artists (particularly of the 60's/70's era) require a different atmosphere then just being stoned.

when I do listen to music while high it's usually whatever is on the radio or in the room. it can be country, classical, rock, metal, blues even broadway and I still remain high and - to some extent - find some increased enjoyment in them - country particularly, but only when I'm more than just high.

and for movies or TV, I prefer something a little messed up. there's the typical drug-orientated movies and fantasy/sci-fi, crime movies/tv shows. there are some good 'true' forensic shows (non CSI) which overtly fascinate me under such a state. comedy and pathetic drama I keep to other drugs.

I think you should reconsider comedies while stoned (if I read right). Yes, drug themed movies are cool, but comedies (especially off the wall ones) are where it's at when baked. Monty Python instantly becomes 5x as funny to me, and so do Landis and Zucker films. On Landis and Zucker, track down their first film called The Kentucky Fried Movie. It's kinda funny sober, but it's so far out there in the sense of comedy films that it really appeals to every stoner I've ever met.

On Floyd, well, call me an ass or whatever, but I haven't listened to Wish You Were Here in a long ass time, probably about 5 months, when I was smoking without a care for the reprocussions. Oh well, 96 more days. i'm a serial-killer :)

Me. Funny too, because when I'm not high I don't think he's all that great. I'm pretty clitche with my pot songs but ambient techno type music is suddenly appealing when I'm stoned as well. And I used to have the Adam Sandler CD's which were ok when I was younger...but when I was high it was the funniest thing ever.

Actually, not much WASN'T the funniest thing ever when I was high.

I don't anymore, but back when I did, the only albums I ever listened to were Ministry's "Psalm 69" and Tool's "Undertow".

I don't listen to them much anymore.
