Revolution Unveiled

Quote:

Few technical details were given about the compact rectangular machine.

...
Nintendo aims to make it the size of several stacked DVD cases and the colour has yet to be decided.

The Revolution will play DVDs, have built-in wi-fi, an SD memory card slot, and 512Mb of flash memory.

Actually, it was revealed yesterday. It will be able to play NES, SNES and N64 games as downloadable roms (and yes you have to pay), as well as be backwards compatible with the Gamecube.

Honestly, I only care about the new Zelda (CHA DA DA DA BIDEO).

to be honest, i think thats fucking sweet. depending on the price id willingly pay to have a collection of classic NES/SNES games on my system. hell, i bought the arcade classics collection so i could play joust and rampart.

as for zelda, im not so hot on the werewolf link but i learned my lesson with WW not to judge too quickly.

edit: actually, after seeing the new trailer im feeling more positive about it. i like the way the game seems to be developing. the aliens through the portal thing is ... interesting, and the Sheik/zelda figure is intriguing.

Wow that article got me really pumped. I've always been a supporter of Nintendo, and even though most of my friends have either a PS2 or an XBox, I went with the Gamecube and I've been happy. The only think I wish is that it doulbed as a DVD / CD player.

I would definitely consider getting this new console for being backwards-compatible, and the new form of wireless controller technology does seem tempting.

I'm looking forward to the next Zelda, though the Nintendo Revolution is not as 'revolutionary' as I would have hoped.

Welcome to 2002, Nintendo...

Actually, the best feature of the revolution is that it can play NES, SNES and N64 games, which will be available for download...

"Revolutionary" + Nintendo = Gimmicks.

Donkey Kongas, Dual Screens, I'm not liking the track record.

The downloading of past gamesis actually useful though, but I wonder the costs.

I think Nintendo is slowly pulling itself out of the videogame market. The only thing worth a shit they have out on the market is the DS. They only good game available on the GC that's not available on other consoles is the Zelda series. I will probably buy the new Xbox and Playstation, but I think I can live without this.

I already have all of the ROMs and emulators on my Ipod so that I can play them on any of my computers. I didn't have to pay for those, it would be a complete waste of money.

I must admit, mmac is absolutely right. Nintendo was at one time the best, yet now it has little to add for innovation. The graphics need work, the gameplay needs to be matured... there are aspects of all console games (not just Nintendo) which turn me off these days.

When looking back on the 'fond times,' whether due to age or awareness, the classic console games were always the best. For the most part, that belief has stayed with me until now. I am intrigued by the resurgence of the video game developers in re-adapting those classic attributes into more modern games. I'm not too sure if they can pull it off, though.

The touchscreen is a gimmick, and not many games will use it properly. The Kongas are like Samba de Amigo except they suck.

Video games were in their prime during the Super Nintendo / Sega Genesis era in regards to play value. I have a Gamecube, and honestly my old SNES games are a lot more fun for the most part even though the graphics are ancient.

Personal Preference in regards to "fun" factor =/= how good a game is.

What's fun changes from person to person. I personally dont get enjoyment out of racing or platform games, many do, I like deep FPS games and RPG's, many think those games are "crap".

It's when you start to blur what an opinion and a fact is that you have a problem.

Yes, fun is individually relative; yet, if the majority of people sway towards one preference of 'fun,' it can be assumed that the aspects of the game which fulfill that preference can determine how good a game is.

You're wrong. Personal preference in regards to fun factor determines whether a game is good or not. A good example of this is Katamary Damacy. It wasn't pretty like Doom3, Far Cry or Half-Life 2, but it was more fun that all 3 put together.

So due to your personal view, everyone should consider it a good game?

I thought it was repetitive mush myself, except for the soundtrack.

As far as i'm concerned, all the next-gen consoles can go fuck themselves.

The xbox 360 looks like the bastard offspring of an ipod and a cuisinart. The ps3 looks like a scanner and the controller... well... it's a goddamn boomerang. As for the revolution, if i knew something about it other than that i can run ROM's on the thing i would diss it.

And what's with the three way clusterfuck with the shapes? Last generation the gamecube was a tiny little square, the ps2 was a tall parralellogram, and the xbox was a giant fucking box that makes my old vcr (bought 1995) look like a remote control.

This generation the xbox is concave, the ps3 is convex, and the revolution is missing a corner. I wasn't impressed with the last 3, and i'm definitely not going to be impressed with this set unless they snap together like a fucking lego set and give me a blowjob.
