Congrats on bothering to open this thread, with its oh-so-appealing name.

Anyway, this is to make up for the stupid-ass thread I made about ad-libing in the Theater of Sound.

So for anyone who passed 9th grade algebra, this should be a little tough.

And by the way, for anyone who gets it right, and shows how they got it, I'll give them 1 +k, no matter how many people get it right. Just don't cheat. Even though there is no way I can tell if you're cheating, just listen to your conscience (the little cricket)

Use the substitution method to solve

{2x-y=13
{3x+4y=3

Good luck! The geeks/nerds (not a derogatory term) should find it fairly easy. And if this gains a good enough following, I'll continue with it.

Number one, this is damn easy...Number two, this is your homework.

Actually, I think it would be more effective if number one was number two and two was one.
Yea read it like that instead.

Ok, asthetik 1, everyone else 0. So far. Here is another one off the top of my head (Not my math book)

This is weighted average, fairly easy stuff. Same reward.

Khelben's scores improved on each test. His scores were 60, 71, and 91. The average turned out to be 74. The teacher decided it would be fairer if she weighted it as follows: the first test was of regular points, but the second test was twice as important, and the third test four times as important. What is the weighted average, forummers?

I'm such a hopeless karma whore. You said show how to do it, right?

Quoted from karma whoring opportunity:
{2x-y=13
{3x+4y=3

2x-y=13
-y=-2x+13
y=2x-13

3x+4y=3
3x+4(2x-13)=3
3x+8x-52=3
11x=55
x=5

2x-y=13
2(5)-y=13
10-y=13
-y=3
y=-3

Whee.

And wow, I must have been out of math for a long time because I want to the weighted average problem, but my brain refuses to comply.

i'd post a picture of the postit note i did it on if that makes you feel any better, but x=5 and y=-3.

edit: that's for the first one... haven't used the Elimination method for *ages*... another viable way of solving this is to plot two lines and find the intersection, which i always find to be a delightful distration.

Substitution method is easy anyway, so I'll trust that you're telling the truth. +k.

By the way, I haven't used Elimination for awhile too. Mainly I use substitution, I was always good at that. Just as long as you get it right, which you did.

Good job. HOWEVER, I have already given you a +k, so I will give you your due point in 6 days.

Oh by the way, you did the work right, but you put your answer as (-1,1), when both should be negative. Your work shows otherwise, so good job anyway.

Alright, GIRL, good job, you got two karma points (I'll give you the second one in 6 days), mirthalac and asthetik got 1, respectively.
