How important is the internet to your life is a whole?

To what degree do you rely on it for:
1. Communication
2. Entertainment
3. School/Research
4. Other

Do you have friendships online that you value as much, or more, than "real life" friendships?

Have you / would you ever date someone that you knew only from the internet?

If tomorrow the internet suddenly was gone from your life, how much would you miss it? (How much would you miss me? i'm a serial-killer :))

It would be rough and I'd be very sad but I wouldn't spontaneously combust for lack of internet. I have a lot of net friends though. I <3 Internet.

i rely pretty heavily on the internet as a connection to information and the rest of the world. im sure if it went away and was never coming back id deal with it somehow and move on, but it would still suck. id also have to start buying music again.

its also pretty much all that keeps me in touch with a lot of my friends back home, and some people far away who id miss a lot if i couldnt talk to them easily anymore. i really hate talking on the phone.

I hate to lose it cause it's how I find new music. I dont want to sound stupid by saying I need music, but I do need it. Dont really talk to a lot of people on the internet, so that would'nt be so bad. If it was gone, I'd just look for another way to find music and take up reading more.

I use it to talk to my guirlfriend and some family members, but I could use leters and phones for that. I also get news. but I could get that from papers and tv. Really if the internet were gone, I'd just have more free time.

That's about when I met nelly, she was the village belle.
I was just a panderer, but I loved that girl like hell.

Then along came a city slicker, all finely dressed and gay.
Before I knew it, the son of a bitch stole my nelly away.

At this point it'd take adjusting but I've been without it before, and I'm still breathing.

I try to use the internet as a tool. MSN for making plans, Wikipedia, email, and some other functions. However, I tend to spend way to much time on it and make it my life. I'd have to make some major readjustments, start using the phone a lot more, etc, but I'd manage.

It would really suck for the first few weeks, but after awhile, I'd adjust and find something else to do, hopefully better, with my time.

I use it mostly for entertainment. I've gone without it before for awhile and it took some adjusting, btu I was ok with it pretty fast. I actually like to go without it once in awhile because honestly, there are lots more constructive things I could do with my time. Not having the internet forces more creativity and relaxation techniques to the forefront. So it's a blessing and a curse, equally, for me.

when you had to cancel your internet access, didnt you just go down to the internet cafe every day instead?

I've been without internet on 3 different occasions.

So not every day, no. I did go to the library (which gives you one hour only) and down to Old Chicago very rarely (maybe about 6 or 7 times total. That's the closest place with internet that I could get to around here). Compared to a few hours a day originally, it cut back drastically to a few hours a week, if that. This was before I had access to Bill's computer, as well.

I went completely without it before that for a short amount of time, and I'm speaking from that experience alone. I'm just saying it would suck, yea, but not that bad and I think I'd adjust OK. I also wouldn't take it as bad because i don't really have an extremely super close friend I only contact with online. And hell, if i can adjust ok enough after a week or more with no access, I think I'd be OK in the long run too.

Sometimes I think this question should really be 'how would you feel if you cant speak to a lot of you friends anymore' ..we might not be ready to die for people we only know online but I do genuinely love some of the friends i've made and it would hurt to give up communication with them. It's a strange prejudice that friendships that exist entirely within a textural construct are meant to be viewed as things you can give up without a second thought and go the rest of your life without.

I'd lose touch with the handful of online friends I have, and that would suck. Also, I would have to rely on my real life friends to get new music, but their tastes are horrible. My English would deteriorate too.

It would suck, but after some time I'd have no problem with it.

The only important thing I get off the internet it music which I would really miss. These days I find browsing to be really unsatisfying and quite boring, I do it out of habit rather more than anything else. I'll be glad when my shitty connection upgrades to the 2mb serice so that I can get what I want quicker and then turn the computer off. I'd also rather talk to my friends over the phone or even SMS as I find MSN too impersonal.
