A disturbingly popular theme for political cartoons to start the year is the old man of 2015 leaving and the 2016 baby having Trump's face. I think it is an indication that his face will dominate the media from now until next December. Alas, alas.

Looks like bernie and hilary are getting pr tight in Iowa (hilary only up 4) while he leads in NH (bernie up 4). Sounds like she is starting to go on the attack. Talking to a lot of people in MO it seems hilary is fully repulsive while bernie is less so though i mostly get trump support.

Returning to MN in a few days. Unfortunately because of Wisconsin voter ID laws and an inability to get MN residency I don't know if I will be able to vote this year. =/ Both have open primaries so we will see then. I remember in 2012 it was really difficult for me to vote in WI but I found the right documents in the last 30 minutes. Hopefully can have something figured out by election day. Or commit voter fraud, I guess.

What are you talking about in Wisconsin? In the 2014 election I literally went to the polls with a utility bill with my name on it and registered to vote right then and there. I still had a Missouri Drivers license. They didn't even ask for it.

On both sides, though, the competitive logic remains unchanged, and now it seems unlikely to change for a few more weeks. NH isn't taken as seriously as Iowa, and the probable Sanders/Trump wins there won't mean as much as wins in Iowa would have.

to elaborate: the biggest critique of Sanders right now is based around his electability. A solid win in Iowa would go a ways toward addressing that (though it's also favorable for him), a win in NH unfortunately won't say too much about general electability.

The whole thing is so stupid. Why do we give Iowa so much power? We're basically giving Grandpa the choice of where to eat for dinner because he wants to eat at 3:30 PM (Newsflash: He wants Denny's).

That's basically on purpose. The US has a lot of structural mechanisms in place to moderate the political process. Like why in the fuck would Supreme Court justices be appointed for life?

The reason that Iowa's primary is early is because Iowa has been one of the best predictors of the president, the theory is that Iowa and New Hampshire approximate the nation at large. The word in poli sci and wikipedia is Bellwether. If you had Montana and Massachusetts first, the results would probably be much less palatable for the nation at large

I feel like if you hung out with ice when he was drinking he'd be a lot of fun. If you hung out with him sober it'd just be a lot of awkward silence then he'd ask you to leave.
